This cross between ‘Zamphir’ and ‘Early Sunrise’ is a prolific bloomer. Bright golden yellow flowers have distinctive fluted petals that attract humming birds.
History: Purchased four of these at Oakland Nursery. Added to bed on the south side of the house July 2, 2014, after ivy was cleared.
Like the Arizona Sun Blankets, these plants didn’t last the winter of 2014 and didn’t reappear in the spring of 2015.
Care: (Coreopsis) “Apply a thin layer of compost each spring, followed by a 2-inch layer of mulch to retain moisture and control weeds. Water plants during the summer if rainfall is less than 1 inch per week. Stake tall varieties to keep them upright. After the first killing frost, cut stems back to an inch or two above soil line. Divide plants every few years as new growth begins in the spring, lifting plants and dividing them into clumps.” — The National Gardening Association
Notes: I can’t lie, I picked this one more for its name and background than anything else. From the packaging — Full sun, water when dry, flowers in spring, 12-18 inches tall, 18 inches wide, fresh cut flower.
